Last month, we released a positioning statement outlining our commitment to integrating generative AI into our services.

Today, we are excited to announce the release of our design principles for the responsible use of generative AI. Having these principles in place is crucial as they provide a clear framework to ensure that our AI initiatives are ethical, transparent, and beneficial for all stakeholders.

These principles guide how we implement AI technologies, ensuring they enhance our services while upholding our core values and prioritising the interests of our customers and employees.

The design principles are:

  1. Prioritisation of Human Interaction and Employees

Made Smarter acknowledges the unique and irreplaceable value of human interaction and the role of its employees. We will always prioritise our workforce, using generative AI as a supportive tool to assist and augment business operations, rather than as a replacement for human effort and expertise.

  1. Alignment with Customer Interests

Made Smarter is committed to using generative AI in ways that primarily serve the best interests of its customers. This includes leveraging AI to strengthen our mission and to enhance the value delivered to customers.

  1. Commitment to Trust, Openness, and Transparency

Trust is fundamental to the relationship between Made Smarter and its clients. We are committed to maintaining a high level of openness and transparency in all our operations, especially regarding the use and integration of generative AI. This includes clear communication about how AI is employed and the measures in place to ensure its ethical and responsible use.

  1. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

Made Smarter will engage with a broad range of stakeholders, including technology experts, industry partners, and regulatory bodies, to inform and refine its use of generative AI. This collaborative approach aims to harness collective expertise and insights, ensuring that AI applications are well-rounded, effective, and socially beneficial.

  1. Continuous Learning and Adaptation

Made Smarter recognises that the field of generative AI is continuously evolving. The organisation commits to ongoing learning and adaptation, ensuring that its use of AI remains at the forefront of technological advancements while adhering to ethical standards and best practices.

We are currently developing a set of AI Co-pilots that the Made Smarter adviser team will use.

These Co-pilots are trained on over five years of programme delivery data, which will enable us to provide even more accurate, customised, and effective support to our customers.

We encourage all stakeholders to engage with us, share your views on our design principles, and contribute to this exciting journey. Together, we can ensure that the adoption of generative AI in manufacturing not only drives innovation and growth but also aligns with ethical and sustainable practices.
